Ayaz Kala Yurt Camp sits on the golden sands of the Kyzylkum Desert, a short drive from the majestic Ayaz Kala fortresses. This camp offers a comfortable, authentic yurt experience with sweeping steppe views, star-filled skies, and easy access to the ancient castles of Khorezm. It’s a perfect base for travelers who want desert silence by night and archaeology by day.

Traditional felt yurts are arranged in a small cluster overlooking the plains, creating a quiet and atmospheric desert setting. Inside, yurts are furnished with beds, linens, and low tables, preserving the nomadic character while adding comfort. Shared facilities are clean and well kept; in peak season, some camps may offer a limited number of private units. Evenings usually feature a hearty dinner, tea, and (on request) live folk songs around a small fire, with sunrise and sunset walks right from camp.
The camp is near the Ayaz Kala fortress complex, roughly 1-1.5 hours from Khiva (depending on road/track conditions). Access is via paved road to the nearest village, then a short off-road drive to the camp and fort foothills. Most travelers visit on a day tour from Khiva or combine an overnight stay with a wider “Golden Ring of Khorezm Fortresses” itinerary.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) provide the most pleasant temperatures and clearest skies. Summer afternoons can be hot; plan fortress walks for early morning or late afternoon. Nights, even in warm months, can feel cool in the open desert-pack an extra layer.
Day 1: Depart Khiva after lunch → Ayaz Kala Yurt Camp check-in → sunset walk to the fortresses → dinner and tea under the stars.
Day 2: Sunrise over the desert → breakfast → visit nearby forts (Ayaz Kala I–III, Kyzyl Kala, Tuprak Kala) → return to Khiva or continue across Karakalpakstan.
