8th of March in Uzbekistan

International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is a holiday of beauty, tenderness, and femininity. It is also known as “Mothers’ Day” in Uzbekistan. People celebrate it as a day of love, kindness, and appreciation. Men give flowers and gifts to mothers, wives, and daughters with warm wishes.

March 8 is an official public holiday in Uzbekistan. It is usually celebrated with a family gathering or a festive meal. Many also visit friends and relatives to share the day.

Popular gifts include flowers, chocolates, cards with poems, and small surprises for mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and daughters.

Some Uzbek men take on household duties on this day — cooking, cleaning, and taking care of children — to allow the women in their lives to rest and feel special.

Since March 8 is a non-working day, office celebrations often take place the day before. Women receive flowers and small presents from their male coworkers and sometimes from the employer as well.

During lunch breaks, office teams often enjoy a cake and a glass of wine to celebrate the occasion.

Concerts and performances by popular Uzbek singers and artists take place in many cities. However, most people prefer celebrating at home with loved ones instead of going out.

Expensive gifts are not necessary. A heartfelt message, card, or small gesture is often enough to make women feel appreciated.

If you're far away from your wife, mother, or sister, a card or even an email with kind words will still be meaningful.

Typical congratulatory phrases include:

“8-Mart bilan tabriklayman!” (I congratulate you on March 8!)

“Xalqaro xotin-qizlar bayrami bilan tabriklayman!” (I congratulate you on International Women's Day!)
