Day of Defenders in Uzbekistan

Day of Defenders of Motherland

This holiday in independent Uzbekistan is celebrated in honor of creation of own Army forces. In Uzbekistan January 14 is marked as the Day of Defenders of Motherland.

It is the professional holiday of the military men because on 14 January 1992 the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan were established.

Uzbekistan’s Defenders Day is considered a major public holiday in Uzbekistan, but is not a day off. Women often give presents and postcards to their male relatives, including those who never served in the military. Many women also congratulate their male colleagues and schoolboys may receive small presents from their female classmates.

In recent years the holiday has become a "Men's Day" holiday, similar to Women's Day which is a public holiday in Uzbekistan on March 8th.

Russia has not traditionally celebrated a Fathers' Day, so this day is an opportunity for families to recognise the contribution of fathers and men to Uzbek life.

The holiday of defenders of peace and calm – military servicemen is widely celebrated in this country every year. This is a result of peace and stability reigning in the country.

On this day, representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Emergencies, the National Security Service and the State Customs Committee line up in Independence Square.

As a military orchestra plays music, these defenders of the Motherland lay flowers at the monument of independence and kindness, which is a symbol of the country’s sovereignty, bright future and good intentions.
