Shayhantaur Ensemble

The Shayhantaur Ensemble is a historical architectural complex located in the heart of modern Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The central element of the ensemble is the Mausoleum of Sheikh Khovendi at-Tahur (also spelled Shaikhantaur), a prominent Sufi scholar and spiritual figure of the 14th century.

Situated within a quadrangle bordered by Alisher Navoi, Shaikhantohur, and Abdulla Qodiriy streets, the ensemble has long been considered one of Tashkent’s most revered sites. Over centuries, it evolved into a major necropolis, where rulers and notable figures of Tashkent were laid to rest.

Historical Background

The Shayhantaur Mausoleum was commissioned by Amir Temur in the 14th century to honor Sheikh Khavendi at-Tahur, a revered spiritual leader. According to legend, the Sheikh requested to be buried next to the sacred Saur tree, which was believed to date back to the era of Alexander
